These boots are super comfortable. Everything a boot should be. Very little break in required. These felt like my running shoes by the second day. Just zip em up, tighten the laces and you are good. I even ran in these the first day I got em. They're that comfortable.
These boots seem well made but weren't wide enough. I ordered a 13 Wide. I went back to Reebok Rapid Response.
Decent boot which is sturdy and comfortable. But zipper broke after 8 months. Three stars because this vendor (Brian) helped me get them replaced at no charge.
I bought these because I needed a work boot that would be comfortable crawling and kneeling. I'm a network administrator so my job requires me to constantly be on my hands and knees. Other boots I had pinched my feet and didn't flex right, making my arches hurt after a while. Really uncomfortable when you're trying to setup network equipment. I liked the look of the GX-8 and they fit my feet well and are durable. It took about a day or two of break in and by the third day they felt comfortable like an old pair of boots. They really fit like a glove and I really like the zipper feature that allows me to get these on in about 10 seconds. You just have to set the laces and thats it. You'll never need to tie a shoe lace again. Very comfortable and well made. I've had these over a year and they are still holding up great.
I wear these 10+ hours every day with no problems. My legs don't hurt or ache like before like with the Altamas I had.
When these arrived after 3 days (shipping was fast), the color didn't exactly match the image. They were more of a grey than a sage green which is what I need for my ABUs. I thought about returning them but kept them but couldnt find anything I liked better.
Fit - These ran slightly large. I normally wear a 9 in running shoes and the 9 in the GX-8s were slightly long in the toe area. Oh yeah, I also wear boot socks so they were slightly large even with boot socks.
Quality - Good quality leather and the sole is doubly stitched to the top of the boot. The metal zipper seems to be of high quality and is smooth.
Comfort - These were very comfortable from the get go. Good ankle support without being restrictive. Good moisture wicking. My feet were cool and dry all day in 90 degree weather.
Bates has been making boots for the military for decades and they definitely know what they're doing. This boot is an example of a good quality product made to last.
This is the fourth pair of Bates I've owned over my Air Force career and they have been consistently good boots. The only reason I've retired my old boots is the suede eventually started looked old and color changed but perfect other than that. They become my thrasher boots that I use for hunting, working on the car, yard work, etc. Comfort is first class. They don't hurt my arched but they are flexible enough to run in compared to the Reebok moon boots. Dont think about it, just buy em!
I bought these for my husband after reading online reviews. He's in construction and needs a sturdy, comfortable boot. He has problems with his feet and the The Reebok boots he had were killing him. He came home from work after the first day wearing these and he couldnt say enough good things about them. What an upgrade. Thank you Bates!
Being in the military for the last 16 years, I've worn everything from black combat boots to what is offered today. Let me say that the advances in technology and materials have made leaps in comfort. These Bates GX8s are a great example. These boots are very lightweight compared to combat boots of the past which makes a difference by the end of a 10 hour duty shift. Also, these boots feel like my Asics running shoes. The heels are bouncy and are shock absorbing. Moisture wicking is another major improvement. These GX-8s keep my feet dry all day and my feet sweat a lot. Durability I imagine (I've only had these for 4 months) isn't as good as I have some combat boots that are 10+ years old. But for a moderately priced boot and for the comfort it offers, its definitely worth the compromise.
Got a pair for my son for his birthday. He said they were uncomfortable and now they are collecting dust in the back of his closet.
