Wellco has been providing combat footwear to the U.S. military since 1965. The Wellco Shoe Corporation traces its roots back to Germany in the early 1900s where its founders patented the technique for molding a rubber shoe sole and attaching it to the shoe upper, a method still used today in vulcanized direct molded sole boots. This technique eliminates the sole stitching and nailing of the heel, the main points of failure in early combat boots.

Throughout the 20th century, Wellco set the standard for combat boots. In the 1960s, Wellco’s jungle boot established a new level in boot technology and specifications that numerous other boots manufacturers soon followed. Wellco continues to innovate with more developments of combat footwear for the U.S. Military. The modern-day desert combat boot includes features specified by General Schwartzkoph for Operation Desert Storm, demonstrating the willingness to deliver what best serves the customer - the U.S. soldier.
