great boots are those worn in and lovingly taken care of boots you have had forever. Wellco has always exemplified this with the boots they make. i recently replaced a set of black all leather wellco combat boots with this boot. my old boots lasted ten years and i have replaced them because part of the leather split on them. my initial reaction to these boots was the same as the last one. "arg. these boots are so stiff and big on my feet" this caused me to face palm myself immediately. the wellco boot is made to be improved by things such as an insole and thick socks. both of which i have bought and used with these boots. the boots themselves need to be worn in but are already more comfortable than they were. if you buy these boots think about getting some insoles yourself. it almost goes without saying that a little mink oil helps too. i recommend these boots to anyone and everyone shopping for a good boot. they are sturdy solid thick soles. the wellco hallmark is a stand alone boot that can handle just about anything at an affordable price. these boots are no exception. thank you wellco.

I love these boots. I previously had a pair that I wore during my first tour in Iraq. They were light, breathed great, and durable. Sadly, they got tore up in some concertina wire during a fight.

Usually a size 14 fits me well, but these boots seem to be a size bigger than any other shoe or boot I own. Not only are my feet swimming around inside them, the cuff is so large that I have to tighten the laces so that the eyelets are touching to get it snug around my ankle. There is also a row of indentations along the leather near the heel that looks like it has been made by mistake by a stitching machine, and while the leather has not been punctured it looks like it could cause a weak spot with wear. Other than that the boots look fairly well made.

For eleven years, I wore the previous generation of what we called "Basic Training" boots, which were similar to these in feel, though the sole is a different pattern, and these are not all leather. Unfortunately, I've worn the soles flat. It took me a while to figure out that "Rosearch" was a trademark of Wellco. Since the military no longer issues the old black leather boots for normal uniform wear, Wellco no longer has them in stock. I finally purchased these as a replacement. These boots are lighter, being partially synthetic materials, but the heavy-duty sole and strong leather heel and toe caps are every bit as good as I hoped. They'll take a shine and I tend to wear them with my suits in lieu of dress shoes when I'm at work because they are so comfortable. I also work in many different environments from day to day, and these boots are tough enough to work in industrial complexes, while looking clean and professional enough (with proper polish care) to go unremarked in any bank or lawyer's office. If you have not worn boots with speed laces before, I would recommend you tie knots in the very ends of the cords to make it easier to take them off without the laces pulling back through the eyelets. As a side-note: As with the previous two pair of issue boots, the laces that ship with these boots will not last long; be prepared to buy yourself a couple of heavy duty replacement speed-laces. I have found that the softer the jacket of the lace feels, the faster it will wear off and break.

Extremely light. Looks great and true to size. A little warm (thicker material than I expected). Got a blister the first time I wore them. Need some breaking in unlike the previous Bellville's I have owned.
